Design: Center Medallion Josheghan
Origin: Iran
Age: Vintage
This splendid Vintage Persian rug incorporates the beautiful Josheghan design. Josheghan design was first seen in the city of Josheghan (near the city of Kashan) where a quilted pattern was used to display nature and seasons that the weaving artist would experience in her surroundings. This rug includes depictions of snowflakes (winter), willow trees in various seasons (summer, fall), and beautiful florals portraying the spring season. Josheghans with a dark blue background are an indication of age and rarity. More recently woven rugs that incorporate the Josheghan design portray a red background. The Josheghan design was replicated and modified in other cities of Iran, including Isfahan, Tabriz, Kashan and Mashhad. Kashan has been weaving this design for over 100 years. This particular rug was woven in a nearby city of Mashhad called Birjand and province of Moud. The city of Birjand has been weaving this design for over 30 years.
The pile on this rug is hefty, and thick; perfect for those high traffic areas. This rug comes in a pair and a quantity up to 2 can be selected for purchase ($9000 each)
